I do wish that polls wouldn't ask if people thought that the PM was handling something "Well" or "Badly". Because two people answering "Badly" might mean completely different things by it.

Also, me saying "Immigration is important to me" means the opposite of what a Reform voter would mean by it.

This because of reporting of how many people think that Starmer is handling the Iran situation well or badly. When I can guarantee that some of the "badly" think we should be bombing Iran right now, and some think that we shouldn't be involved even slightly.

Today I found out that Diana Longinova was arrested late last year and again this year for singing in public near a subway station in St Petersburg a protest song by Noize MC (and she eventually had to leave the country due to her impending persecution). Here is a live 2023 recording of the original protest song and here are the song’s lyrics:

I'd like to talk to you,
But the TV is too loud—
It's pretending to be your head,
Its speaker is so similar to your mouth.

My country has risen from its knees
In all its negative growth.
I disagree with everything—
Here's my answer to your non-question:

Where have you been for eight years,
Fucking monsters?!
I want to watch the ballet—
Let the swans dance!

Let Grandpa tremble in fear for his "Lake."
Get the Solyovov off the screen—
Let the swans dance!

When it's all over, you'll be silent
And pretend you had nothing to do with it.
Your face is more sour than a Crimean cherry:
You're clearly slightly depressed about something.

I'd like to talk to you,
But the TV is too loud—
It's pretending to be your head,
Its speaker is so similar to your mouth.

Where have you been for eight years,
Fucking monsters?!
I want to watch the ballet—
Let the swans dance!

Let Grandpa tremble for his "Lake."
Get off the screen, Solovyov—
Let the swans dance!

There are 15 squares. I'm working on more white single to use up the other half-bobbins of brown. I am getting to the end of the white roving, partly that's a relief (Turns out I do not really like roving and much prefer working with raw fleece) and partly it's irritating because I'm just getting consistently good with it.

Interesting.

Interesting.

Under the new post model, flagging a thread’s root post as non-rebloggable affects only the root post and any reblogs without comments; reblogs with comments which were made before the root post was made non-rebloggable now remain rebloggable, regardless of the root post’s settings.

Further, there doesn’t seem to be any mechanism at all for flagging a reblog with comments as non-rebloggable, not even by the reblog’s own author; the upshot is that any post that’s been reblogged with a comment even once effectively cannot be made non-rebloggable at all.

Between this and rendering nearly all non-first-order reblogs with comments undiscoverable to the author of the original post, I imagine harassment campaigns are going to have a field day!

Every time the social medias get worse I feel bad about how seldom I post on blogspot nowadays compared to a decade ago :(
I keep feeling like I should only post on there if I have a big post with a lot of progress pics of a project, but there’s really no reason I couldn’t make smaller posts about a finished project, even if I didn’t take many pictures of the process.

Finished the gloves a few days ago! The tearing on the thumb seam got a lot worse, but mainly just in one spot, so I trimmed the edges and sewed a little patch in there and I think it should be ok.

I stretched them out with the help of some water and they’re much less tight now, but they still feel quite bulky and clumsy compared to my other gloves.
But looking back at the order description, that’s on me for getting 0.7mm lambskin when what I want for gloves is 0.4 or 0.3. I don’t remember because it’s been a few years, but I assume it was against my better judgement and that I only bought it because I love dark teal so so much.

(These are mostly the same pattern and construction as the brown & ivory gloves I made in a video a couple years ago. The stripes are painted on with the help of masking tape.)

:: Cash helps Jules into the house a little before midnight, then makes himself scarce. Jules’ homecoming is meant to be fluffy, but might be emotionally intense for readers. Part of the “Lodestar” arc, set in the Polychrome Heroics universe. ::

Cash slowed to a stop in front of the mobile home where lights spilled out of the living room windows, brightening the porch that spanned the narrow front before illuminating the three steps just barely narrower than the front of the house and the attached porch. Setting the brake and shutting off the engine made Jules rouse slightly. “Oh, I forgot,” the teen mumbled. “Wanted the box I sent to you marked ‘F’. That’s the big souvenir collection for the little o--” A yawn turned the start of the word into a noisy sigh. Jules’ jaw cracked noisily.

Let's begin with this: the fish doorbell is active again! See fish on the camera, push the button to have the keeper go and let them through.

A lovely profile on Diane Duane, who has been in fandom and making fandom and having her own fandom for many decades at this point.

Bruce Campbell, star of Evil Dead, Brisco County, Jr., Bubba Ho-Tep, and frequent guest star on Xena: Warrior Princess, among other roles, revealed a cancer diagnosis that was going to make his tour for a new movie come up short. Gods-cursed cancer. Here's hoping Bruce can beat it and the treatments are effective.

Permission to use more modern music in figure skating programs has meant an entire series of headaches to obtain copyright clearances to use the music, because skating has not yet worked out appropriate blanket licensing permissions, I guess, with all the relevant countries and possible artists. I'm interested as to why copyright holders and/or companies would reject the use of their music during skating programs or the Olympics, outside of "this person using this music is not someone we want associated with the music."

Because the United States is not a safe place to be, nor to try and enter and exit legally, the Ig Nobel Prizes have moved their award ceremony to Zurich, Switzerland. The Annals of Improbable Research have found something far too probable, about the way that U.S. immigration is treating everyone, so they went somewhere safer.

What a lot of people outside of Chicago may not realize is that The Beans are a native species to this region and right now is baby season! What you’re seeing there is probably just an instance of a young mature The Bean being kept in a secure enclosure, probably due to some kind of injury that’s being rehabbed.

In urban Chicago around this time of year if you want to go The Bean spotting you mostly just need to keep an eye out around downtown drugstores for formations like this.

I took this picture myself in a Walgreens. As you can see we have a nice healthy-looking family group consisting of a parent The Bean, several juveniles who will often stay with the parent for several years, and some newborns this year who naturally group up protectively near any large sign reading “Chicago”.

The Beans are usually extremely docile and can even be kept as pets once the juveniles separate from their family group, since they are low-maintenance and require only a small flat area such as a desk or bookshelf on which to recline. Fun fact, a group of The Beans such as pictured above is known as a Tchochki!

Are adult The Beans usually around the size of the one in the above photo? The most famous one I know of is about three humans tall. Is that a genetic rarity, or is it more like lobsters?

There’s a lot of debate in TheBean Biology circles about the massive The Bean residing in Millennium Park. It’s not known why this The Bean chose the park or why it has grown to such gargantuan size. I’m not an expert, I just live here, but I tend to agree with the newer theory that they can regularly grow to massive sizes in the wild, but we only tend to encounter smaller ones because such huge sizes generally only occur in deep freshwater lakes.

It’s certainly very unusual to see a The Bean of that size on land. Such a privilege to live in a place where they feel safe enough to take up residence alongside humans.

@copperbadge I have a question. I might be interested in keeping one as a pet but I want to be a responsible parent and need to know a little more. Can one of them be happy by itself, or is it better to get a pair for companionship? Also, of course, what is a healthy diet for them? Thanks for any advice you can offer.

Well, as I said I’m not an expert, but it’s my understanding that once juveniles leave the family unit they’re generally pretty solitary until they begin families of their own, so just getting one should be fine. It doesn’t appear that The Beans reproduce asexually (nobody’s really positive how they do it) so unless you want a whole tchochki of The Beans it may be best to stick to one.

For feeding you’d really have to consult an expert; the Chicago Parks District might have some kind of infomatic about it on their website. I have no idea what the big The Bean in Millennium Park is fed. Apparently you used to be able to attend feedings but for “public safety” reasons they put an end to that before I moved here. In any case, good luck! You’re being a great prospective pet parent.

While he was quite surprised to walk out for his morning on-leash ablutions into heavy snow above his knees, he's really starting to relax.

This morning I reached down to stroke his back and he didn't flinch.

Just now I was resting on the floor by his bed, petting his back. I started to scritch the scruff of his neck, and he relaxed even more, his dark eyes shining up at MyGuy behind the camera. (I'm reclining on my tripled-up exercise pad just behind him, shockingly without glasses.)
